Get Younger Looking Skin Through Plastic Surgery

When most people hear the phrase “plastic surgery,” the first thing that usually comes to mind is a facelift. Technically known as a rhytidectomy, early facelifts consisted of making an incision along the scalp line from ear to ear, pulling the skin tight over the face and forehead, cutting away the extra skin, then suturing the incision. While this method was effective at reducing wrinkles and minimizing lines, it did not take into account the actual contours of the face or the fatty tissue below the skin. Today’s plastic surgeons can perform a facelift with minimal incisions, and underlying tissue can be repositioned to add symmetry, enhance facial contours, and minimize deep wrinkles and lines.

However, there are other types of specialized plastic surgeries that can concentrate on different areas of your face to improve the overall appearance of the face. Here are six other procedures that are available from plastic surgery centers throughout Hampton Roads.

-   Brow Lift. For those who don’t necessarily want a full facelift, a procedure called a brow lift concentrates on the worry lines in the forehead. Two small incisions are made behind the hairline, some muscle and tissue may be removed, then the eyebrows are raised to smooth the forehead and minimize frown lines.

-   Eyelid Surgery. Any plastic surgery that concentrates on the eyes, eyelids, or eyebrows is known as blepharoplasty. This is an effective way to reduce loose skin on the eyelids to eliminate droopy and wrinkled lids. Blepharoplasty can also be used to remove fat deposits from under the eyes, eliminating “bags” and reducing eye bulging. In addition to making the patient look younger, this type of surgery also gives them a refreshed look that comes from a sound night of recuperative sleep.

-   Neck Lift. As we age, our skin slows the production of collagen, a natural material that helps keep skin stay plump and radiant. While this does affect facial skin, it can also make neck skin look loose and wrinkled—a look that is sometimes known as a “wattle” because it is similar in appearance to a turkey neck. A neck lift can remove fatty deposits and stretch the neck skin to create a smoother, more defined look.

-   Nose Reshaping. Rhinoplasty, or a “nose job” as it is often called, can not only reshape the look of the nose to either make it look less pointy or bulbous, it can also help correct breathing problems caused by a deviated septum or other areas of the nose that need additional support.

-   Cheek/Chin Implants. If you don’t have enough natural material to work with, cheek and/or chin implants can be placed under the skin to provide extra structural support to the face. This is a safe and effective way to redefine the shape of the face, adding additional contours that can create an aesthetically pleasing outcome.

-   Facial Reconstruction. Some plastic surgeries are conducted to correct imperfections caused by genetic defects or severe injuries. Large scars and wounds can be virtually eliminated through skin grafts harvested from somewhere else on the patient and blending the skin so the scar or wound is significantly less visible.

Summary:

In addition to facelifts, there are several other types of plastic surgeries that can target specific areas of the face to provide a more aesthetically pleasing, younger look. These target areas can include the forehead, the eyelids, the neck, the nose, the cheeks and/or chin, or to reduce visible scars caused by injuries.
